Indie pop-rock band Oxen just released their newest song, “Postpone”, today. Musically, its a fun indie rock song with prominent poppy hooks, whimsical guitar riffs á la Vampire Weekend, and gritty vocals like Arctic Monkeys.
Lyrically, it’s a clever take on something that most people have experienced to some degree—the idea of growing apart from your friends and, with good intentions, making plans to get together only to postpone those plans, perhaps indefinitely.
People certainly change as they get older. Most people mature but some are forever stuck at the emotional level they were in high school. Many people take on new interests while others remain fanatical for whatever they were into when they were young. The point is that people change and, if not geographically, grow apart in other ways and no longer share interests or common philosophies on life.
The lyrics say, “We’re not those teenagers no more. Time talking to you is time wasted.”
That about sums it up.
